Updates from Aug. 18th meeting

Hey Folks!
Here is some of the things we discussed and finalized.
  • Mission Statement: "Couples actively seeking out the sacramental meaning of their marriage. We will support each other in this vocation through study, fellowship, prayer and community."
  • Feel free to add tweaking suggestions for the mission statement.
  • We will be reading "Catholic for a Reason IV" by Scott Hahn. I looked it up on Amazon and it is about $10. We will be reading the first 3 essays before our next meeting. The Sheguits will facilitate the first essay, the Meyers will facilitate the 2nd essay and the Linders the third.
  • Our next meeting will be at the Sheguit's home on September 22nd at 6pm.
  • The meetings will be generally scheduled for the 3rd Saturday of the month. The meetings for the remainder of this year will be as follows:
  • October 20th, November 17th and December 15th

Thanks everyone. Feel free to add anything I may have left out. Let us continue to pray for one another andn for the blessings of this group.

Catholic for a Reason

There is a book by Scott and Kimerbly Hahn (who I really like) that is called "Catholic for A Reason IV - Scripture and the Mystery of Marriage and Family Life"

Again, I haven't read it, but found it tonight. Great benefit is that its a Catholic book, by a reputable author.. here's a little blurb...

The volume is replete with solid Catholic theology and idealism. . . . While reaffirming the natural law, the authors also sketch out the unique qualities of Christian, sacramental marriage. They cite frequently the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and recent popes, especially John Paul II. . . . Scripture and the Mystery of Marriage and Family Life is not all theology, however. In fact, it is filled with the concrete experiences of married couples who strive to live out their vocation day by day with God’s help. Many of their examples of marriage and family life are touching—and very real.

Some ideas

now that Sarah and I have established that Gary Smalley didn't write the evil
"no respect makes mens cheat" book, we can look at him again as a possible author. His name keeps coming up when I ask for suggestions --particularly the 5 love languages book. I went to his website and he has a book called "the first 5 years of marriage"!
Now I don't know anything else about it, but I thought I would throw it out there.

Minutes :)

Hey gang! (this is Cynthia)

Just wanted to jot down some of the things we talked about last Sunday.

  • Jessica will start us off with some music, about 2-3 songs.
  • We will take some time to have a Christ centered discussion regarding what God has been doing in our lives as married folks
  • We will then dive into our topic or theme that is provided by our hosts. We all are currently discerning what our first topic or theme should be.
  • Shared Prayer will conclude the formal part of the evening
  • REFRESHMENTS! which can be a contibution by all couples

Like Brad mentioned earlier, we will be meeting on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Our next meeting is August 18th at 7pm.

Please post your comments and ideas on the comments section b/c everyone can than read it
